Much has been written about gratitude. Some of it, admittedly, by us here at Wholly Holistics. However, I feel it is one of those subjects that can’t have enough perspective. Therein lies its power…
Fortunately for a lazy gardener like me – I’m a reluctant shopper, to boot – there’s still a little time left in this holiday gift-giving season to find the right gift for those difficult gardeners on your list. There’s time . . . but I always seem to be challenged with the inspiration part. I really don’t want to give the usual or expected; I want to come up with something meaningful and special, something unique, something the recipient will value.
Some of my BFF’s have four legs. Dogs, kitties, horses. For years, my mother begged, cajoled and finally demanded that I give her at least one grandchild. But neither my older sister nor I ever complied. The only blood-related grands she ever had were granddogs, grandcats and grandhorses. As Mom didn’t share our love of animals, she was not amused.
Most of y’all are probably too young to remember the comedian Red Skelton’s persona of the ‘mean widdle kid,’ who pondered, “If I dood it, I get a whippin’ . . . I dood it!”
“Synchronicity.” Try saying the word aloud. How does it feel in your mouth, how does it sound, what do you see in your mind as you say “synchronicity”? I hear the tinkling of wind chimes, the sound of glitter in the wind, and the whispers of angels and sprites.
“Kill the wabbit, kill the wabbit, kill the wabbit…” Elmer Fudd had it right, from a certain point of view. But did he have it right 100% of the time? I mean, there would be no more rabbit holes, would there? I submit that sometimes the best thing that can happen to us is to be Alice in Wonderland and tumble down the rabbit holes of life here and there.
